I first wrote poetry at school with the inspiration of an enthusiastic teacher who introduced Eliot, Yeats, Auden and Hughes to me and, later, non curriculum poets like Montale and Cavafy. Since then I have been encouraged by reading the work of many wonderful writers including Plath, Transtromer, Trakl, Simic, Greenlaw, Paterson – and so many more. My poems have a flavour of their own however, and have extended their range and perhaps also their depth over the years.
